Total expenses =

$\frac{16 + 12 }{40} = \frac{28}{40}$

Balance =

$\frac{12}{40} = 1400$So his income is

$\frac{1400 \times 40}{12}$

= Rs. 4666.67

So, his expenditure on food and conveyence =

$\frac{28}{40} \times 4666.67 = 3266.69$
