Answer:

no.of plants = 2800/x. (1)

no.of plants +10 = 2730/x-1. (2)

by adding 10 on both sides of the equation 1

no.of plants+10 = 2800/x +10

2730/x-1 =2800/x +10

10x^2+60x-2800=0

x^2+6x-280=0

x=14

x = 14

Step-by-step explanation:

A man spent Rs 2800 on buying a number of plants priced at Rs. x

Number of plants bought = 2800/x

supplier reduced the price of each plant by Rupee 1.

=> price per plant = Rs  x - 1

Amount paid = 2730 Rs

number of plants bought = 2730/(x - 1)

received 10 more plants

=> 2730/(x - 1) =  2800/x + 10

multiplying both sides by x(x - 1)

=> 2730x  = 2800(x - 1)  + 10x(x - 1)

=> 2730x = 2800x - 2800 + 10x² - 10x

=> 10x² + 60x - 2800 = 0

=> x² + 6x - 280 = 0

=> x² + 20x - 14x - 280 = 0

=> x(x + 20) - 14(x + 20) = 0

=> (x - 14)(x + 20) = 0

=> x = 14 , x = -20

x can not be -v3

x = 14
