A man squeezes a pin between his thumb and finger, as shown in fig.6.1
The finger exerts a force of 84N on the pinhead.
The pinhead has an area of 6.0×10^-5 m^2

Given:

A man squeezes a pin between his thumb and finger. The finger exerts a force of 84N on the pinhead.The pinhead has an area of 6.0×10^-5 m^2

To find:

  • Pressure exerted
  • Value of force exerted by pin on thumb?

Calculation:

Pressure = Force/area

=> Pressure = 84/{6.0 × 10^(-5)}

=> Pressure = 14 × 10⁵ Pascal.

Now, According to NEWTON'S 3RD LAW:

  • Every action has equal and opposite reaction !

So, the pin will also exert an equal force of 84 N on the thumb.
