A man standing at some distance from a cliff hears the echo of the sound after 2seconds .he walks 495meters away from the cliff.he produces a sound there and receives the echo after 5sec .what is the speed of the sound ?

Time taken to hear echo= 2seconds.

let speed of sound be v m/s.

Using formula, velocity= 2* distance/time

v = 2* x / 2

v= x......(1)

Now, the person moves 495 metres away from the cliff.

So , the distance becomes (x+495)

Time taken to hear the echo = 5 seconds.

therefore, v = 2* ( x +495)/5

putting value of x = v from eq. 1

v = 2*(v+495)/5

v= (2v + 9 9 0)/5

5 v = 2v + 990

3 v = 990

v = 330 m/s
