Answer:

The distance of man  from the mirror is 3 m.

Explanation:

Given:

Distance of image of man from  himself=6 m

Let u be the distance of man from the plane mirror and v be the distance of image from the plane mirror. It is given that , v+u=6 m so v=6-u

Now assume that man is standing on the left side of the plane mirror and let distance measured on left side is negative and distance measured on right side of the mirror is positive.

Using mirror formula

\dfrac{1}{u}+\dfrac{1}{v}=\dfrac{1}{f}

where f is the focal length of the mirror

Since the radius of curvature is infinite for plane mirror ans so focal length is also infinite.

Putting the value of all parameters we have

\dfrac{1}{-u}+\dfrac{1}{6-u}=\dfrac{1}{\infty}\\\dfrac{1}{u}=\dfrac{1}{6-u}\\u=3\ \rm m

The object is standing at a distance of 3 m from the mirror on its left side.
