A man standing on a bridge 300 meters long observes that a train takes 13 1/2 seconds to pass the bridge and 9 second to pass him.Find the lenght and the speed of the train

Distance = Speed × Time

Distance covered by train to completely pass the bridge = L + 300 m

Distance = Speed × Time

L + 300 = V × 13½

L + 300 = V × 27/2

From equation (1)

L + 300 = L/9 × 27/2

L + 300 = 3L/2

L - 3L/2 = -300

-L/2 = -300

L = 600 m

Speed of train from equation (1) is

V = L/9

= 600 / 9

= 66.67 m/s
