a man stands in a lift going downward with uniform velocity. he experiences a loss of weight at the start but not when lift is in uniform motion. explain why with 5 points?​

Explanation:

When the lift starts it accelerates downward and afterwards it moves with a constant velocity. Let the acceleration is a. So the man feels weight loss. Once the lift achieves constant velocity the acceleration is zero hence he don't experience any weight loss.

CASE 1

The lift initially moves with a uniform velocity(not constant ) and therefore an acceleration 'a' , hence the weight of the man = m (g-a)

where m= mass of the man

           g= acceleration due to gravity

CASE  2

But when the lift begins to move uniformly (constant velocity ) the acceleration becomes zero ,

hence weight of man = m(g-0)

                                    = mg

as  m (g-a) is less than mg therefore the man feels lighter when moving with uniform velocity.
