The total time taken by the person to return back to home is 2hrs .

To find -

What is the average speed and velocity of the man ?

Solution -

Here , A man started at the home and travels to a vegetable market, which is a distance of 2.5km from the home .

Let us calculate the distance and displacement of the man .

Now , as the person starts from home , goes to the vegetable market and returns back home ,

Displacement -

=> ( + 2.5 km ) + ( - 2.5 km )

=> 0 km

Distance -

=> 2.5 km + 2.5 km

=> 5 km .

Average Velocity -

=> [ Displacement ] / [ Time ]

=> [ 0 km ] / [ 2 hr ]

=> 0 kmph

Average Speed -

=> [ Distance ] / [ Time ]

=> [ 5 km ] / [ 2 hr ]

=> 2.5 kmph.

This is the required answer .
