Answer:

Explanation:

a) AIDS(Acquired Immunodeficiency syndrome)  is caused by HIV(Human immunodeficiency virus) virus which first infects T- lymphocytes mostly helper cells and starts its replication producing many progeny of itself and later are released by bursting the helper cells causing great reduction of  T helper cells in the persons body. As helper cells are meant for protection against many infection in our body, so reduction in helper cells does not help the person to recover from the infections even the minor ones.

b) HIV virus is spread through the contact of blood and body fluid like semen.

following are the ways through which a person gets infected with AIDS:

  • sexual contact with the infected person
  • By transfusion of contaminated blood and blood products
  • By sharing infected needles as in case of intravenous drug abusers.

c) Since HIV is caused by virus it cannot be treated with antibiotics as they work against bacterial disease. AIDS is not totally curable but can be prevented . Zidovudin or AZT(Azidothymidine) was the first and still continues to be the drug of choice for the treatment of AIDS.
