Given : Time taken for walking and riding back = 4 hours 30 minutes

Time taken for walking both ways = 5 hours 40 minute

To find : Time taken to ride back both ways =?

Solution :

Let the time for walking be 'x'

Let the time for riding be 'y'.

According to question, we get :

x+y=4\ hours\ 30\ minutes=4\times 60+30=270\ minutes\\\\2x=5\ hours\ 40\ minutes=5\times 60+40=340\ minutes\\\\x=170\ minutes

so, the value of y becomes :

x+y=270\\\\170+y=270\\\\y=270-170\\\\y=100\\\\y=1\ hour\ 40\ minutes

Hence, the time taken by him to ride back both ways would be :

2\times 100=200\ minutes=3\ hours\ 20\ minutes
