Answer:

d) 1.3 km/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the speed of boat be x

And speed of stream be y

DOWNSTREAM

speed=(x+y)km/hr

distance= 16km

time= 4hrs

distance= speed×time

16= 4 (x+y)

UPSTREAM

speed= (x-y) km/hr

distance=6

time=2hrs

distance=speed×time

6=2(x-y)

Putting two equation together

16=4(x+y) ____________________1

6=2(x-y)_____________________2

from 1

16=4(x+y)

16=4x+4y_________________3

from 2

6=2(x-y)

6=2x-2y

12=4x-4y__________________4

eq 3+4

28= 8x

x=2.66 km/hr

find y

16=4x+4y

16=4(2.66)+4y

16=10.64+4y

4y=5.36

y= 1.34 km/hr

So, the speed of river current is 1.34km/hr

HOPE THIS HELPS!!
