Let the length of total journey be x km,

According to the question :

Distance traveled by train is 2 / 5 of the distance of his journey, it means that the distance traveled by train is 2 / 5 × x = 2x / 5

Distance traveled by bus is 1 / 3 of the distance of his journey, it means that the distance traveled by bus is 1 / 3 × x = x / 3

Distance traveled by foot is 3 km.

total distance = x km

Distance traveled by train + distance traveled by bus + distance traveled by foot = x km

\dfrac{2x}{5} + \dfrac{x}{3}+ 3 = x

3 = x - \dfrac{x}{3} - \dfrac{2x}{5}

3 = \dfrac{ 15x - 5x - 6x}{15}

3 × 15 = 4 x

45 / 4 = x

11.25 = x

Therefore length of total journey is 11.25 km
