Answer:

Write down what you know. Write down what you are looking for. For the things you know convert them so they can be easily added.

Train = 3/5 or .6 of journey

Taxi = 1/4 or .25 of journey

Bus = 1/8 or .125 of journey.

Walk = 8 KM = rest of journey.

How far was everything but walk? = .6 + .25 + .125 = .975 or 97.5%

8 KM = 1 - .975 or .025 or 2.5%

Divide both sizes by .025 which is also equal to multiply both sides by 40.

320 KM = total journey.

Double check

320×025 = 8

Answer:

Find the total distance of his journey.

ans). 100 km

Solution:-

Let the total distance of his journey be X km

Then, the distance covered by bus :-

 =  \frac{3}{4}  \: of \: x \: km \:  =  \:  \frac{3x}{4} km \\

The distance covered by taxi:-

 =  \frac{1}{5}  \: of \: x \: km \:  =  \frac{x}{5}  \: km

The distance covered on foot = 5km

Total distance = x km

 \frac{3x}{4}  +  \frac{x}{5}  + 5 \:  = x

Multiplying both side of the equation by 20, the LCM of 4 and 5, we get

15x + 4x + 100 = 20x

19x + 100 = 20x

20x - 19x = 100

x = 100

Hence, the total distance of the journey = 100km.
