Let the point of start be D. From D he traveled 60 KM towards East. Let the point reached by him be E. Now DE = 60 KM From E he traveled 100 KM towards West. Let the point reached by him be W. Now EW = 100 KM If you join the points W and D then a right angled triangle Δ DEF is formed as shown in the figure. The measure of WD gives us the answer we need here. Δ DEF, DE and EW are sides and WD is the hypotenuse. To find WD we can apply the formula hypotenuse² = side² + side² ⇒ WD² = 60² + 100² ⇒ WD² = 3600 + 10000 ⇒ WD² = 13600 ⇒ WD = √13600 ⇒ WD = 116.62 ∴ The man is at a distance of 116.62 km from Delhi
