Answer:

6km/hr

Explanation:

Let initial speed be x

initial time be t

so as per the formula: S = D/T

x = 96/t or t = 96/x

now new speed = (x+2)

new time = (t-4)

Therefore:

(x+2) = 96/(t-4)

(x+2).(t-4) = 96

(x+2).(96-4x) = 96x

96x - 4x^2 + 192 - 8x = 96x

-4x^2 - 8x + 192 = 0

x^2 + 2x - 48 = 0 (dividing by -4)

x^2 + 8x - 6x - 48 = 0

x(x+8) - 6(x+8) = 0

(x+8)(x-6) = 0

therefore x = -8, x = 6

Since speed can't be negative

x = 6km/hr
