A man travelled distance by train is 20 km.

Explanation:

Given: Travelling distance = 50 km/h.

Came back distance = 8 km/h

Time taken to complete the journey = 2 hours 54 min.

Let the distance be x.

Time taken = 2 + \frac{54}{60} ⇒ 2 + \frac{9}{10}

= \frac{29}{10} hours.

We know the formula, Speed = distance/time

Therefore, \frac{x}{50}+\frac{x}{8}=\frac{29}{10}

\frac{8x+50x}{400}=\frac{29}{10}

Cross multiplying, we get

10(8x + 50x) = 29 x 400

80x + 500x = 11600

580x = 11600

x = \frac{11600}{580} = 20 km.
