let the total distance be X km
distance travelled at 10km/h = X/2 km
distance travelled at 12km/h = X/2 km
therefore ,
5 = X/20+X/24
5 = 11X/120
X= 120*5/11= 54.54~=55Km

The distance is 55 km.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total distance = 2x km

A man travelled a distance in 5 hours.

The first half at 10 km/h and the rest at 12 km/h.

The relation between speed, distance and time is

Speed = \frac{distance}{time}

\frac{x}{10} + \frac{x}{12} = 5\\\\=> \frac{6x + 5x}{60} = 5\\\\=> \frac{11x}{60} = 5\\\\=> 11x = 5 \times 60\\\\=> x = \frac{300}{11}

=> x ≈ 27.273 km

Total distance = 2x = 2 x 27.273 =54.546 ≈ 55 km

Hence, the distance is 55 km.
