A man travelled a distance of 50 km in 8 hours. He travelled partly on foot at 5 km/hr and partly on bicycle at 7 km/hr. What is the distance (in kms) travelled on foot?

- Y be the distance travelled by bicycle
Given that
- , the total distance travelled by a man is 50 km in 8 hours , partly on foot and on bicycle
- So, the first equation is x+y=50………..(1)
We know that the formula,
- time =distance/speed
- So , x/5+y/7=8hours
- or 7x+5y=280….(2)
- By solving these two equations we get the distance travelled by man on foot
- Therefore, the distance travelled by a man on foot is 15km
