Answer:

The distance travelled on foot = 5x4=20 km

Step-by-step explanation:

Given, total distance 54 km and total time is 9 hr.

He travelled his journey by foot and cycle.

He covered some distance on foot at a speed of 4 km/hr

and the remainder on a bicycle at a speed of 9 km/hr.

Let he took x hr when he covered distance by foot.

According to question,

4x + 9 \times (9 - x) = 54

Because we know

speed \: \times \: time \: = distance

4x + 81 - 9x = 54 \\ - 5x = - 25 \\ x = 5

So the man took 5 hr when he covered distance by foot.

Therefore the distance travelled on foot = 5x4=20 km.
