A man travels 420 kilometres in, partly by rail and partly by steamer. He spends 8 hours more time on steamer. If the velocity of the steamer is 35 km/hr andthe velocity of rail is 65 km/hr, how much distance does he cover by steamer?

Let the time taken at rail be a
thus the equation made by both calculating speed will be
(a+8)35+65a=420
35a+280+65a=420
100a+280=420
100a=140
a=1.4hours
thus he spends a+8=9.4 hours on stream
so
speed=d/t=speed×t=35×9.4=329km!
thus the equation made by both calculating speed will be
(a+8)35+65a=420
35a+280+65a=420
100a+280=420
100a=140
a=1.4hours
thus he spends a+8=9.4 hours on stream
so
speed=d/t=speed×t=35×9.4=329km!

difference between time of train and steamer
is 8
we know that t=d/s
train travel=x
steamer travel=420-x
((420-x)/35)-(x/65)=8
65*420-65x-35x=8*35*65
27300-100x=18200
9100=100x
X=91
steamer 420-91=329
is 8
we know that t=d/s
train travel=x
steamer travel=420-x
((420-x)/35)-(x/65)=8
65*420-65x-35x=8*35*65
27300-100x=18200
9100=100x
X=91
steamer 420-91=329
