Distance = 480 km

Let say Usual Speed = S km/Hr

Decreased Speed = S-8 km/Hr

Time Taken with Usual Speed = 480/S  Hr

Time Taken with Decreased Speed = 480/(S-8) Hr

480/(S-8)  - 480/S   = 3

 480S - 480(S-8) = 3S(S-8)

480S + 3840 -480S = 3S²-24S

3S²-24S+3840=0

S²-8S-1280=0

 S²-40S+32S-1280 = 0

(S-40)(S+32) = 0

S = 40 as it can not be negative

S = 40 km/Hr

Usual speed = 40 km/Hr

Decreased Speed = 40 -8 = 32 km/Hr
