A man travels for 4 hours. he covers half of his journey by bus at 40 kmph and the remaining at 30 kmph by motorcycle. what is the total distance he travelled?

$Time \: = \frac{Distance}{Speed}$

According to question ,

$\frac{x}{40} + \frac{x}{30} = 4 \\ \\ \frac{x + x}{120} = 4 \\ \\ 2x = 480 \\ \\ x = 240$
So that the total distance is 240 km
