Answer :-

44.4 miles /hr

Given:-

v = 60 miles /hr

Time taken = 6 h

Average speed → It is the ratio of total distance travelled by a body to total times taken by a body.

Case :- 1

The distance covered by man is given by.

S = v × t

S = 60 × 6

S = 360 miles

Now,

His return tips takes 7 . 1/2 hr

Distance covered will be =

S = 360 × 2

S = 720 miles

 \huge \boxed {A_v = \dfrac{S_1 + S_2}{T_1 + T_2}}

 A_v = \dfrac{360 + 720}{6+7.5}

 A_v = \dfrac{1080}{13.5}

[tex] A_v = 44.4 miles /hr.

Answer:

44.4mph

Explanation:

Correct Question:

A man travels for 6 hrs at a rate of 50 miles per hour. His return trip takes him 7½ hrs. What is his average speed for the whole trip?

Solution:

Average Speed:

The average speed of an object is the total distance traveled by the object divided by the elapsed time to cover that distance.

Given that,

Man's trip = 50 mph.

Man travels for 6 hours.

We know that,

\bigstar\bf Distance = \sf Speed \times Time\bigstar

So,

Man's trip = 50 mph x 6 = 300 miles.

Hence,

The total distance for the whole trip = 300 x 2 = 600 miles.

We also know that,

\bigstar\bf Speed =\sf \dfrac{Distance}{Time}\bigstar\bf

So,

Total time taken = 7.5h + 6h = 13.5h

Average speed = \sf \dfrac{600}{13.5} = 44.4mph.

Hence,

The average speed is 44.4mph.
