a man travels from his home to market with a speed of 40km/hr and comes back with a speed of 50km/hr. calculate the average speed and average velocity.

hey buddy,

let us suppose that the distance travelled will be 200 km ( LCM of 50 and 40)
so their time taken will be:
200/50 = 4 hours
200/40 = 5 hours

so total time taken will be 9 hours
and total distance will be 200 + 200 = 400 km

so average speed will be = 400/9 = 44.44km/h


the displacement in this case is zero, therefore the average velocity will also be zero
