Answer :-

Let us assume that the car has to travel a total distance of 2x km

We know Distance = speed × time

Time = distance/speed

If a car travels the first half of a distance with a speed of 30km/h

  • Distance = first half distance means 2x/2 = x km

  • Speed = 30 km/hour

Time taken in travel first half of the distance = x km/30 km per hr. = x/30 hrs.

The car cover the remaining half distance with a speed of 70km/h.

  • Distance = x km.

  • Speed = 70 km/hour

Tine taken to cover second half of the distance = x km/70 km per hr = x/70 hours

Total time taken by car to cover 2x km distance = x/30 + x/70 = 100x/2100 hrs.

Average speed of car = Total distance/total time

Average speed of car = 2x km /100x/2100 hour

⇒2x × 2100/100x

⇒4200x/100x

⇒4200/100

Average speed of car = 42 km/hour

  • the average speed of the car was 42 km / hour
