Explanation:

Given A man uses a pulley system to raise a load of 100 kg to a height of 10 m. He exerts a force of 60 kg newton on the rope over a distance of 25 m. What is the efficiency of the system?

  • Now a pulley system is used to raise a load of 100 kg to a height of 10 m.
  • So work is done by the man
  • So we have W = F x S
  •                          = 60 x 25
  •                        = 1500 kg-m
  • Now W out = F out x d out
  •                     = 100 x 10
  •                     = 1000 kg-m
  • So Efficiency = W out /W in
  •                     = 1000 / 1500
  •                   = 0.66
  •                 = 66%
