Let the total land he owned be x hectares
According to the question,
x- \frac{x}{3}-\frac{x}{4} - \frac{3x}{8} =18
 \frac{24x-8x-6x-9x}{24} =18
 \frac{x}{24}=18
x=18*24=432
⇒The man had 432 hectares of land.
Land used for growing apples=432* \frac{3}{8} hectares
=162 hectares.
Ans:He owned 432 hectares of land and he used 162 hectares of land for growing apples.
