bcoz

if u draw a line (not exactly but draw lines roughly) with given measurements

u will get an incomplete rectangle.the rectangle gets completed only when u add 30 m to length with 20m (which is given in question.)

now connect initial with final and u will get a trapezium. now :draw

height of trapezium=40m u will get a triangle.

hypotenuse^2=30^2+40^2=2500

hypotenuse=50m

therefore displacement covered =50m
