total time taken = 2+1 = 3hrs

east is taken as positive then west which is right backwards is taken as negative. so, displacement (which is vector having direction too) = 1700-1250 = 450km

velocity = displacement /time

Velocity = 450/3 = 150Km/hr.

BUT,distance (being a scalar quantity having only magnitude) = 1250+1700 = 2950km

speed = distance / time

speed = 2950km/3hr

speed = 983.33km/hr
