Step-by-step explanation:

Time taken to cover 6 km =

50 min = 5/6 hour

Let say that the man walked for x hour.

Then he ran for = 5/6 - x hour

Distance covered by walking + Distance covered by running = 6km

Distance = speed * time

Distance covered by walking

= 6x

Distance covered by running

= 8(5/6 - x)

6x + 8(5/6 - x) = 6km

6x + 20/3 - 8x = 6

-2x = 6 - 20/3

-2x = (18-20)*3

-2x = -2/3

x = 1/3h

1/3 h = 20min

He walked for 20 min.
