The first minute

Speed = 1 m / s

This means that he covers 1 m in 1 s.

In 1 minute there are 60 s .

So the man covers 60 m in 60 s.

Distance is 60 m ..................................(1)

The next minute

The speed is 3 m/s

This means that he covers 3 m in 1 s

In 1 minute there are 60 s

So the man covers 3*60 m

                            ==> 180 m ..............................(2)

Total distance

Total distance [ by adding (1) and (2) ]

==> 180 m + 60 m

==> 240 m

Speed = distance / time

time is 2 minutes = 2*60 s = 120 s

Speed = 240 m / 120 s

==> 2 m / s

The average speed is 2 m / s.

Hope it helps you

Answer:

2m/s

Explanation:

Total distance covered by the man

1ms for 1 minute = 1 x 60 = 60m

3ms for 1 minute = 3 x 60 = 180m

Total distance = 60 + 180

= 240m

Total time = 2 minute

= 120 s

average speed = distance/ time

240/120

= 2 ms

Hence, 2ms is the average speed.
