A man walks from A and B and back in a certain time at the rate of 3.5km/h . But if he had walked from A to B at the rate of 3 km/h and back from B to A at the rate of 4 km/h
He would have taken 5 min longer.

Answer:

The distance between A and B = 1 km

Let the distnce between A and B be x km

Let the time taken in travelling from A to B is t hr

Then using time = distance / speed

2t = 2x/3

or t = x/3

Again according to the question

Time taken in travelling from A to B with 4 km/hr = x/4

He comes back from b to a with 3 km/hr so time taken = x/3

According to the question

x/4 + x/3 = 2t- (5/60)

or, x/4 + x/3 = 2x/3 - 1/12

or, x/4 - x/3 = -1/12

⇒ x/12 = 1/12

or x = 1 km

Therefore, the distance between A and B is 1 km.

Hope this helps.
