time taken by man to go market from home= 2.5/5=30 min

time taken to return from market to home= 2.5/7.5=20 minutes

total time taken for the whole journey =30+20=50 min

total distance covered=2.5+1.25=3.75 km

now, average speed=                     3.75÷40/60 = 5.62 km/hr
