Take distance as 'd'

Speed while walking up a stationary escalator- d/90

Speed while standing on a moving escalator- d/60

Total speed =d/60+d/90= 3d/180 + 2d/180= 5d/180 = d/36

So, speed = d/t = d/36

Ans. Required time is 36 seconds

Answer:

Time taken will be 36 sec.

Explanation:

Given that,

For stationary escalator

Time = 90 sec

For moving escalator

Time = 60 sec

Let the distance be x.

We know that,

The speed is equal to the distance divided by the time.

In mathematical terms,

v=\dfrac{d}{t}

Where, v = speed

d = distance

t = time

Now put the value into the formula

For stationary escalator,

v' =\dfrac{x}{90}

For moving escalator ,

v'' =\dfrac{x}{60}

Relative velocity is

v=v'+v''

v=\dfrac{x}{90}+\dfrac{x}{60}

v=\dfrac{5x}{180}

v=\dfrac{x}{36}

Hence, Time taken will be 36 sec.
