Given :

A man was engaged as typist for the month of february in 2009. He was paid Rs. 500 per day but Rs. 100 per day were deducted for the days he remained absent. He received Rs. 9100 as salary for the month. For how many days did he work?

To Find :

  • find the no. of days he present

Solution:

Number of days in February in 2009 = 28

He was paid per day = Rs.500

Rs. 100 per day were deducted for the days he remained absent.

Let x be the no. of the days he present

So, 28-x are the number of days he was absent

So Amount deducted for x days = 100 ( 28-x )

Amount earned for x days = 500x

We are given that He received Rs. 9100 as salary

So, 500x - 100 × ( 28 - x ) = 9100

500x - 2800 + 100x = 9100

600x - 2800 = 9100

600x = 9100 + 2800

600x = 11900

x = 11900 / 600

x = 19.83 [ approx 20 days ]

  • So, He was present for 20 days

Answer:

Per day payment = RS 500

Let the man worked as a typist for x days in the month of February 2009.

Then

absent in the month of February 2009 =(29-x) days

we know that maximum days in February in 29

Total paid amount for days =RS 500x

and

Per day dedication when he remained absent = RS 100 Total amount deducted for being absent RS100 x (29-x) Given salary received by man for the month of February is RS 9100

According to the question

500x - 100x ✖ (29-x) == 9100

500x -2900 + 100 x = 9100

600x = 12000

x=12000 ➗ 600

x=20

x=20

Hence

the man worked at 20 days
