Given :  a man weighs 90N on the surface of earth of radius R.

To Find : At what height above the surface of earth his weight will be 40 n

Solution:

Weight = mg

m = mass of man

g = gravity due to earth

g = GM/R²

G - universal constant

M - Mass of earth

R - radius of Earth

=> Weight = mGM/R²

=> 90  = mGM/R²

=> mGM = 90R²

Let hay at height H above surface of earth weight is 40N

& 40 = mGM/(R+H)²

=> mGM = 40(R+H)²

=> (R + H)²40 = 90R²

=>   (R + H)²4 = 9R²

Taking Square root both sides

=> (R + H) 2 = 3R

=> 2R + 2H = 3R

=> 2H = R

=> H = R/2

option 1 is correct
