A man weighting 60 Kg runs along the rails with a velocity of 18 km/h and jumps into a car of mass 100 kg standing on the rails. Calculate the velocity with which the car will start travelling along the rails

mass of man=60kg                            mass of car=100kg

u(1)=18km/h=5m/s                               u(2)=o

v(1)=v(2)=v

According to law of conservation of momentum,

m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2

60*5+100*0=60*v+100*v

300+0=60v+100v

300=160v

v=300/160

=1.165m/s
