Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

A man went to bank to withdraw 3000 rupees he asked the cashier to give him 50 and 100 notes only if he got 42 notes in all .

To find:-

How many notes of rupees 50 and 100 he got ?

Solution:-

Let the number of Rs. 50 notes be X

The value of X notes = Rs. 50 X

Let the number of Rs. 100 notes be Y

The value of Y notes = Rs. 100Y

Total number of notes the man got = 42

X + Y = 42 ------------(1)

Total money which is to be withdrawn = Rs. 3000

=> 50 X + 100 Y = 3000

=> 50(X +2Y) = 3000

=> X+2Y = 3000/50

X+2Y = 60 ----------(2)

On subtracting (1) from (2)

X+2Y = 60

X-Y = 42

(-)

_________

0+Y = 18

__________

=> Y = 18

On Substituting the value of Y in (1)

=> X +18 = 42

=>X = 42-18

=>X = 24

Rs. 50 notes = 24

Rs. 100 notes = 18

Answer:-

Total number of Rs. 50 notes = 24

Total number of Rs. 100 notes = 18

Check:-

Total number of notes = 24+18 = 42

The value of Rs. 50 notes = 50×24 = 1200

The value of Rs. 100 notes = 100×18 = 1800

Total amount = 1200+1800 = Rs. 3000
