A man when asked how many hens and buffaloes he has sold that his animal have 120 eyes and 180 legs . How many hens and buffaloes does he have.

So,

2x + 2y = 120

x + y = 60 .....(1)

Each hen have 2 legs whereas each buffalo have 4 legs.

2x + 4y = 180

x + 2y = 90 .....(2)

Subtract equation (1) from equation (2)

x + 2y - x - y = 90 - 60

y = 30

If y = 30 then from equation (1)

x = 60 - y

= 60 - 30

= 30
