a man while drawing water out of a well with a help a bucket and a rope,is thrown backward if rope happens to break .explain why it is so?

While drawing water out of the well the water exerts a downward pressure .whereas the person pulling it exerts an upward pressure .but the upward pressure is more than the downward pressure so if the Rope breaks the person pulling the Rope is thrown backwards as more force is exerted than pressure exerted by the water
