A small flat mirror should place 1.2 meter away from the man.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the distance of mirror from the man = x meter

Since the incident ray of the light from top of the pillar should reflect at the mirror on the ground and then reach the man's eye in order to be visible to the man.

So we can use basic congruent ratio rule.

\frac{1.75}{x}=\frac{7}{6-x}

1.75(6 - x) = 7x

10.5 - 1.75x = 7x

10.5 = 8.75x

x = 1.2 m

A small flat mirror should place 1.2 meter away from the man.
