Answer:

Let the quantity of persons be x and also the total cash be Rs y

Given once Rs 12 is given to every person he was in need of Rs 6

12x − y = vi ------------- (i)

once Rs 9 is given to every person he is left with Rs 9

y − 9x = 9 ------------- (ii)

Add (i) and (ii), we get

3x = 15

∴ x = 5

Number of persons is 5

add x =5 in (1),

we get 12×(5) − y = 6

⇒ y = 60 − 6 = 54

Hence the money is Rs 54.
