50%brown:50%black (if the man with brown hair is heterozygous) female would be homozygous recessive(bb) in both the cases as recessive gene (black hair) appears only in homozygous recessive condition.

the dominant gene (brown hair) can be present in two forms :

  • May be the man has got both the alleles for the genes dominant (BB) this state is called homozygous dominant.
  • May be the man has got the alleles one dominant and one recessive (Bb) in this case the dominant will show its effect (brown hair present). but the recessive allele of man when present with recessive alleles of female shows its effect ( black hair present)
