                                                        = 5X/4

                                         = 21X/16

The retailer sold it at cost = 21X/16 + (21X/16) × (20/100)

                                         = (21X/16) × 6/5

According to the question

(21X/16) × 6/5 = 786

or, X = (786 × 16 × 5)/(21 × 6)

      = 499 Rs.
