A manufacturer sells article to a wholesaler dealer at 25% gain. the wholesale dealer sells it to a retailer at 5% gain. the retailer gains 20% by selling it for ₹756. How much did the manufacturer pay for this article?​

Then the manufacturer sold it at cost = X + 25X/100

                                                        = X + X/4

                                                       = 5X/4

The wholesaler sold it at cost = 5X/4 + (5X/4) × (5/100)

                                        = 5X/4 × 21/20

                                        = 21X/16

The retailer sold it at cost = 21X/16 + (21X/16) × (20/100)

                                        = (21X/16) × 6/5

According to the question

(21X/16) × 6/5 = 786

or, X = (786 × 16 × 5)/(21 × 6)

     = 499 Rs.
