Answer:

KE lost = 5 J

KE left =45 J

at highest point KE =0

By energy conservation

KE = PE

45 = mgh

= 10h

h = 4.5 m

max height reached is 4.5 m

Answer:

The height to which the body will rise is 4.5m.

Explanation:

We will apply the concept of the conservation principle.

Since 10% of energy is lost in overcoming air resistance. Then only 90% of kinetic energy will be left which then will be converted to potential energy.

So, the energy converted to potential energy will be,

PE=90\% KE     (1)

Where,

PE=potential energy

KE=kinetic energy

From the question we have,

Mass of the body=1kg

KE=50 Joule

By substituting the value in equation (1) we get;

PE=0.9\times 50

PE=45 Joule  (2)

The potential energy is also given as,

PE=mgh     (3)

g=acceleration due to gravity=10m/s²

h=height to which the body rises

By substituting the values in equation (3) we get;

45=1\times 10\times h

h=\frac{45}{10}

h=4.5m

Hence, the height to which the body will rise is 4.5m.
