m1 = 2kg

m2 = 1kg

T is the tension in the string.

Net force on m1 = F1

F1 = weight of m1 - normal force on m1 + T

Since normal force on m1 is equal toweight of m1 they get cancelled.

F1 = T

T = m1 a

T = 2a

Net force on m2 = F2

F2 = m2 g - T

Now F2 = m2 a

So m2 a = m2 g - T

1 × a = 1 × 9.8 - 2a

a = 9.8 / 3

a = 3.3 m/s 2

T = 2a

T = 2× 3.3

T = 6.6 N
