SOLUTION.

As we see that the mass is moving with acceleration less than gravity hence there is some force acting on the upward direction which is Tension (T).

Mass of the body = m

Tension = T

Acceleration = g/4

ACC to NLM

mg - T = mg/4

T = mg - mg/4

T = 3mg/4

Work done by string = ( Force exerted by the string × displacement of the body)

Work = (3mg/4)(-x)

Negative sign indicates that body is moving in opposite direction to that of force i.e Tension

Work = -3mgx/4
