Given:

Mass (m) = 2 Kg

Initial distance (h_{1}) = 10 m

Final distance ( ) = 5 m

Initial kinetic enerygy ( ) = 0

To find:

Gain in kinetic energy(KE)

Solution:

As the body drops through 5 m,a part of the potential energy is converted to kinetic energy

  • As per law of conservation of energy,

        KE_{1}+ PE_{1} = KE_{2} + PE_{2}

        0 + mgh_{1}  = KE_{2} + mgh_{2}

        2×10×10 = KE_{2} + 2*10*5

        KE_{2} = 100 J

  • Gain in kinetic energy (ΔKE) = KE_{2}  - KE_{1} = 100 - 0 = 100 J

  • ΔKE = 100 J
