A mass of 50 g of a certain metal at 150°C is
immersed in 100 g of water at 11°C. The final
temperature is 20°C. Calculate the specific heat
capacity of the metal. Assume that the specific heat
capacity of water is 4.2 J g-1 K-1.

Answer:

0.193

Explanation:

Here the heat loss by the metal = Heat gain by the water.  - 1

SPECIFIC HEAT CAPACITY ; The amount of heat required to raise temperature of 1g(or unit quantity of substance) substance by 1 degree.

So total heat = total mass * total raise in temperature * specific heat capacity

So from 1,

 100 * 4.2 * 9 = 150 * specific heat of metal * 130

so specific heat of metal is = 0.193 by solving the above equation.
